IC-2 - Language Variants
This lesson will help students explore the concepts of language variation and linguistic chauvinism. Learners will be exposed to a variety of different forms of the French language and encouraged to critically explore why some variations are considered superior by some people.

IC-3 - Cultural Symbolism
This lesson will guide learners through an exploration about cultural symbolism. Students will be exposed to a variety of francophone flags and encouraged to identify how symbols within the flags relate back to the traditions and identity markers of the community.

IC-4 - Stereotyping
This lesson will encourage learners to question their own stereotypes related to race, gender, and external appearance. Students will develop a series of ‘play lists’ including perceived favourite music and movies for particular individuals pictured and then explore the source of their determination and the potential problems associated with stereotyping.

IC-5 - Intercultural Simulation
This intercultural lesson promotes greater awareness about greetings and paralinguistic characteristics of communication. Learners will create an artificial culture with unique greeting and paralinguistic practices and develop critical interpretive skills by deciphering the cultural practices of peers.

IC-6 - Cultural Perspectives
This lesson for more advanced French learners will help students understand the influence of context and historical events in shaping perspectives. Learners will develop stories related to a visual prompt based on a prescribed perspective and then explore how context and history influence interpretations.

IC-7 - Family Rituals
This lesson, recommended for more advanced students, will help learners to develop a critical interpretive lens in looking at cultural phenomena. Students will explore three distinct family gathering rituals and identify embedded cultural values and beliefs using Hofstede’s cultural dimensions.
